2008 Music In Review - #26

Graeme Thomson of The Observer wrote that only Nick Cave could make hell on earth sound so thrilling, atmospheric and damn funny. With the 14th album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, they brings the forces of good and evil to the shores of America.

This album has a lot more angst to it. It could be some fall out from the record he did under the band name Grinderman. That was my #15 album of 2008. Loud hard rocking numbers then mix in some of the sound from his Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus ballad album a few years back and you have Dig, Lazarus, Dig!! The faster music doesn't lose that Bad Seeds feel of looseness and Cave's vocals still take center stage as he offers 11 more stories.

The first track, also the name of the album brings us right to New York City with Lazarus who has been resurrected, in line for soup and is a dope fiend. It wouldn't be a Nick Cave record if he didn't bring the bible into play somewhere.

Here is my 26th album in 2008, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with Dig Lazarus Dig!!!
