Europe, Watch Out!

I've booked a flight to Zurich. This summer I'll spend ten days with my cousin, her husband and the two kids in Switzerland. I can't believe I've never made the trip overseas. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a place to stay and or operate out of.

While looking into the flights, I had found that I had enough frequent flier mileage with Us Airways to fly from San Francisco to Zurich, 1st Class. Might as well fly relaxed as I'm entering unknown territory.

I was planning on spending a month in Europe last August, but all that came to a crashing halt when I became unemployed. So this year, I plan to make up for it. My original trip had me going from capitol to capitol on a whirlwind trip. Just wanted to get my feet wet in different countries. Set myself up for more spot on trips in the future.

Two of the top cities, outside of Zurich, were Venice and Prague. I'm going to spend at least a day in both of those cities. The rest of the time will be spent in Switzerland. I haven't had the opportunity to spend much time in the planning of my itinerary. I hope to be able to start working on that in the next few weeks.

With the foreign travel big firmly planted in me, I was reading that the airfare wars have started when flying to Australia. The debut of Virgin Australia has seen the average fare drop almost 54%. Last fall I was looking to fly to Melbourne or Sydney and found it would cost close to $2000 just in airfare. Right now I can book a round trip flight to Sydney for under $1000. It looks like I will be going to the land down under later this year as well.

Now I just need to buy myself a great digital SLR to capture all those great memories and replace these photos with my own versions.
